Over the past few years, we here at Firedoglake have been working to expand our coverage by adding new authors, growing our community base and enhancing our ability to cover a diversity of topics of interest to our readership.
As part of this effort, we launched Bytegeist in 2012, and it’s proved to be an interesting forum on the intersection of tech and politics that we hope to continue to build upon in the near future. This year we are happy to take the next step forward with our arts and entertainment reporting.
Lisa Derrick has done an incredible job carrying the torch by herself at La Figa for years now. Her impeccable wit and an eye for enticing topics has cultivated an outpost for arts and culture at FDL that we’re excited to build upon in this next phase.
Over the past few months, we’ve introduced you all to Sara Haile-Mariam, a fierce culture critic and musician who has captivated us with her stories on the music industry and, most recently, on Beverly Guitar Watkins. We’ve also brought on veteran documentarian (and this writer’s flesh-and-blood sister) Shannon Sonenstein to share her expertise, yielding fascinating films and insightful interviews with artists in the field. In the near future, we hope to bring other writers here to round out or coverage in these and other areas of the arts.
I’m excited to welcome you all to Firedoglake’s Arts & Culture blog: our new home for musings on film, music, the entertainment industry and more, and we’d love for you all to tell us what kinds of things you want to see happen in this space. Share your thoughts and input in the comments and let us know.
